Accidental Art

You know, this is another form of art that is not often talked about. I guess maybe it’s because artists don’t normally see things as accidental. Art is supposed to be deliberate, and tell a story. However, when it comes to photography, I think there are some exceptions to the rule, simply because traditional has a science to it. I’m not saying that photography isn’t scientific when it comes to creating images; but if you happen to walk down the street and happen to notice the way light is cast on an object, reality is, you’re not going to automatically take out your tools and start drawing. There’s usually planning involved when drawing. But for street photography its very different.

Long story short, I was in the Mid-Town Manhattan Library a while back, I was using my phone to take photos of their picture archive. I do that occasionally to get inspiration from other artists. Anyway there were two (I don’t know what you call them), I guess portable shelves? next to each other. I had my phone camera still on, and I placed it in between the two shelves temporarily while I looked through other images Then I happen to notice that the way the light came down, and the depth-of-field, etc, etc. Created this wonderful art. It took me a long time to post this simply because I still didn’t know what the hell to call it, but I was soooo attracted to it, I had to take the shot. It almost looks like an ultrasound, then other times it looks like a dress, then I thought it looks like a fractal image, and other times it looks like some sort of bell. I absolutely love the kind of art the screws with your head. Very interesting.
